Digital Agriculture Mission - AgriStack, Former ID
The Indian government has started the Digital Agriculture Mission to help farmers using technology. One important part of this mission is AgriStack, a digital system that collects farmer information.
What is AgriStack?
AgriStack is like Aadhaar but for farmers. It helps the government maintain records of farmers and their land. Farmers will receive a Farmer ID, a special number that simplifies access to government benefits.
AgriStack has three main parts:
- Farmer Registry – A list of farmers in every state
- Geo-Referenced Village Maps – Digital maps to assist in farming
- Crop Sown Registry – A registry of crops grown by farmers
Why is the Farmer Registry Important?
The Farmer Registry is a government database that tracks farmers and their land records. This ensures that farmers can receive benefits like loans, subsidies, and PM-KISAN payments.
Features of the Farmer Registry
- Farmer’s Personal Details – Name, contact number, and address
- Land Ownership – Details of land owned by the farmer
- Real-Time Updates – Land ownership changes are updated automatically
- State-Specific Information – Each state may collect additional details
Farmer ID and PM-KISAN Scheme
The PM-KISAN Scheme provides financial support to farmers annually. Now, a Farmer ID is required to apply for PM-KISAN in 11 states:
- Andhra Pradesh
- Assam
- Bihar
- Haryana
- Gujarat
- Madhya Pradesh
- Maharashtra
- Odisha
- Tamil Nadu
- Rajasthan
- Uttar Pradesh
